"All human beings, whatever their culture or historical past, suffer when they are intimidated, imprisoned or tortured. We must, therefore, insist on a global consensus, not only because of the need to respect human rights throughout the world, but also by the definition of those rights, because it is inherent in all human beings to yearn for freedom, equality and dignity "
- Dalai Lama, spiritual leader-
What are human rights?
They are norms that recognize and protect the dignity of all human beings. These rights govern the way in which individuals live in society and relate to each other, as well as their relations with the State and the State's obligations towards them.
Universality and inalienability
Human rights are universal and inalienable. Everywhere in the world, everyone has the right to them. No one can voluntarily waive their rights. And no one can take them away from someone else.
Participation and inclusion
All persons and all peoples have the right to contribute, enjoy and participate actively and freely in civil, political, economic, social and cultural development, through which human rights and fundamental freedoms can be made effective.
